iOS 14 is out and the introduction of widgets. We have had a widget for MyRideTrac since 2016. iOS prioritizes their new widgets over application widgets. The MyRideTrac widget is still available, but it will be at the bottom of your screen (when you swipe from the home screen). So far, the only way I can move the widget up is to get rid of most of the iOS widgets. To do that: swipe to bring up the widget screen (the "left" screen). Press and hold until you get the jigglies Press the "-" key to remove unwanted widgets. You should see the MyRideTrac widget move up. If you don't have a MyRideTrac widget, you can: press the "edit" button (or press & hold for the jigglies) press the "Customize" button…
If you are using an iPhone, all of the OS upgrades is wonking out the "allow always" feature of location tracking. Do these things to fix it. use SEND REPORT and send your data in spreadsheet form to your email Send from Jan 1, 202x to current date. This is a backup, just in case Delete the app from your phone Go to the App Store and reinstall the app. If you are using iCloud backup, the app will restore your data automatically. If you are not... you have your spreadsheet backup of your data for reporting purposes.
Apple changed the way the pull down screen works. They did it in iOS 10 too! In iOS 11, if you swipe down you get a lock screen. Just swipe right and you will see the widget. They fixed it in iOS 10 and I am pretty sure they will fix it in iOS 11 too. Thanks for your support!
The widget is designed to make switching status easy. All you have to do is pull down the menu and press a button. But, it also does something else for you! If you have killed MyRideTrac, the widget will restart the app for you. Simply pull down the widget menu and press a button. Apple users will see a "Start MyRideTrac" button. Android users will just need to press a button and MyRideTrac will automatically start. We did this because many folks didn't want to remember to start the app. By the way, you don't need to kill the app. It is very happy to stay running in the background. Here is a quick how-to video: [embed]https://youtu.be/9_LFzI_MbX4[/embed]
Yes! If you are using iCloud , switching phones is easy (see the SETTINGS screen). Just install MyRideTrac on your phone and start it up. It will automatically start restoring your backup data. This works if you lost your old phone or are upgrading your phone. Note: Free version of MyRideTrac on Android phones does not backup. Be sure to use the SEND REPORT feature to send the data in spreadsheet form to your email. Of course there are limitations... you can't go from Android to Apple or vice versa. But, you can always use SEND REPORT to send a spreadsheet with your data to your self. You can then combine spreadsheets for reporting for taxes. It's that easy!
Both Android and iOS manage the active applications in memory. Even if you have a 128Gb phone, not all of it is allocated to actively running programs. Most of it is used to store programs and their data BUT NOT RUN THEM. When your active program memory starts to run low, the operating system (Android/iOS) starts to put applications into hibernation - essentially shutting them down. It starts with background apps because they are... well... running in the background. When a tracking app gets put into hibernation, it stops tracking you! We were frustrated with the other tracking apps missing trips... and it was because they were put to sleep by the operating system! MyRideTrac gives you a choice to close apps before the operating system does. That…
Remember to change the PREVIOUS YEAR / CURRENT YEAR tax rates on the settings screen. The IRS mileage rate for 2020 is $0.58 and the 2019 rate is $0.575. By changing these settings, MyRideTrac will report your current and last year deductions appropriately.
MyRideTrac is designed to always be running in the background. Here's why It tracks your mileage using the GPS in the phone. To track your mileage, it has to be running. It runs in the background, because you are using your rideshare app in the foreground. MyRideTrac backs itself up to your iCloud or Google Drive automatically. It does this several times per day. It has to be running in the background to do the backup. If you kill the app, it WILL NOT backup your data!!! It backs up your data at approximately noon, midnight and every 3,000 GPS pings. The widget can be used on top of your rideshare app. It talks to MyRideTrac in the background to change your status... go ahead and see. Change your…
You can name each vehicle you want to track in MyRideTrac by keying a unique vehicle name in the settings screen. When you want to change vehicles, just go to the Settings Screen and type in the name of the vehicle you want to track (e.g. "Kens Honda", or "Infiniti"). MyRideTrac will immediately begin tracking your miles under the vehicle name in the Settings Screen. When you want to change back, just type in the vehicle name in the Settings Screen. If you are currently in a ride, you should hit STOP to end the current ride before switching vehicle names. Whatever vehicle name is current is what gets logged when you switch your status (from RIDER to NORIDER for example).
Both Android and iOS use the onboard GPS system. MyRideTrac works by dropping "bread crumbs" to track your driving. If you go behind buildings or take your phone and walk a distance with MyRideTrac in RIDER/NORIDER/PERSONAL mode, it will be recording your track. Use the STOP button when you want to turn of recording. You don't need to kill the app, the STOP button does the trick.
